Welcome to the website of the

The Psychosocial Aspects of Diabetes (PSAD) Study Group is an official Study Group of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD).

The number of people infected with the Covid-19 virus in Europe including the UK has seen a sharp increase over the past couple of days. Although there is still huge uncertainty over the epidemiology of the virus, experts expect that the prevalence of Covid-19 cases will continue to rise well into April/May. Under the circumstances the Executive Committee (EC) believes that it will be irresponsible to hold the PSAD 2020 meeting in April as planned. Not only will there be an increased health risk for people attending the meeting and risk of further spreading the virus, but for attendees there is also the possibility of having to self-isolate either in the UK or when returning home. Further, several people have seen travel restrictions imposed on them by their institutions and had to cancel their participation. For these reasons, the EC has decided to postpone the PSAD 2020 meeting until the autumn. We will communicate a new date for the meeting when we have a clearer picture of the situation and how the virus is developing. If you have already booked the Delta Hotel, please do not forget to cancel your booking. You can do this without penalty until the 9th of April.

As I mentioned in my previous email, all those who had submitted their registration form for the 2020 PSAD meeting by the 1st of February will retain their place and will be able to present their work when the meeting will held in the Autumn. The deadline for applications for the PSAD Science Award and Travel Awards is extended till the 1st of September.

Finally, the election for the EC positions will go ahead as planned, so if you are considering your candidacy for any of the vacant positions (Chairperson, Honorary Secretary, Honorary Treasurer, Committee Member) please submit your application by March 15th.  The elected members will start in their function at the meeting in the Autumn.

We have not taken this decision lightly and we apologize for any inconvenience caused.  Thank you for your understanding.
